and control on the remote PC. SBC in an Ethernet connector!

Yes, for the control port (which, even if GigE is used for SDR to PC
or other external processor would be separate). On the control
channel, you'd need PTT, signal detect (syllabic squelch would be
nice), mode/VFO signalling and audio both ways. :) IP enables routing
over standards based networks, if the distance is longer than across
the house. And even around the house, I already have IP based
infrastructure.
And if you're asking "Why not interface the controlling PC?" My
answer is, yes, the PC might be the appropriate device to link to,
BUT eventually, when the right boards come out, I want to have my SDR
to be able to operate independently of a PC.
