We already know it is not going to be an FPGA since there is not
anyone interested in taking it on.

It is very unlikely that it will be a custom OMAP processor based
because of the development cost involved for a PCB.

It might be a TI DSP like the C647x that Lyle mentioned if Lyle
decides to take it on.

The Beagle Board is most realistic candidate for now until/unless it
becomes unavailable at some point.

The other realistic alternative is a mini-ITX board (this is where I
am planning to go).
