For those who may be considering Kicad as a powerful but free PCB drafting package -
The path is relatively simple.

Obtain PC or laptop
Obtain the latest version of Kubuntu Linux on CD/DVD - generally <$20 on the web
Insert the CD - boot from this
Follow the prompts to install the OS
(One minor hiccup is disk formatting - Windows may well be overwritten if present
(oh well - never mind :) )

Once OS is installed - connect to your network and web - it will most likely be
automagically recognized

Open Adept package manger - look in menu under system
search for Kicad - package is available
Install

Voila!

You have a powerful PCB drafting system
Why pay for Windows and an expensive proprietary one?
