[hpsdr] Newbie question

Just integrated Atlas,Ozy Mercury received from TAPR last week. Impressed
with the performance of the receiver, and waiting for penelope from Gerd...
I started to think if I can use the mercury and penelope config as a VNA
with a external directional couplar?  Will I need to feed the mercury board
with reference output from penelope?

Am I thinking too much? any suggestions ?
