Hi Frank,

It was an interesting discussion we've just had.

I've been with the Linux world since version 0.12 of the kernel as a
user. In many ways I share Bob's perspective on things. If you aren't
using the "base system" you are on your own. However, that is the neat
thing about open source. What that really means is you're responsible
for gathering the required "OTHER" packages and compiling from source.

Right now Bob is choosing to do his work on an ATOM based PC (which I
happen to also have, though it's still in the box - that is another
story.) I'm MUCH more interested in getting the BeagleBoard and using IT
as my compute horsepower. It is a much more daunting path because the
DSP stuff will be done on a second processor inside the OMAP - I can't
just compile from source for that puppy (pun intended..) It'll take
OTHER than just the ARM tool chain I can get out of the box for the
Beagle board. I happen to know that Bob is maybe going that way too -
but he is trying to get the basic Linux system up on an X86 environment
first. I can wait ;-)

The real point on want to make is since we are doing an Open source
version of this now, that it will back-port over to OTHER environments
like Windows more easily that going from the Windows world to Linux.

That being said - I also concur that an "out-of-the" box distribution of
SDR-LInux (or whatever it get's named) is a great idea too. If I could
download a few hundred MB ISO and boot it up and see it work. This would
go along way to making it user friendly.

Just my two cents - I'm enjoying the ride! ;-)
