The current tack risks duplication of effort. Consider:
USRP goes from DC to 6 GHz, has open architecture and works on five
operating systems.
QS1R is plug and play for HF and QT1R is coming online. You can even try it
online via Ken N9VV.
FlexRadio is now a commodity item.
SoftRock's are nearly free.
Any useful new effort must address the barriers to entry which are:
1) H/W cost
2) H/W complexity
3) S/W complexity
4) Sustainability
Litmus tests:
Can a smart kid have something working in a day?
Can a seasoned veteran keep their attention for a day?
It would be nice if these genius level efforts could be directed at
something that is more cutting edge.
