Hi Alex
12V is needed for the PA, & we've retained the 12V on the Alex/Apollo  
header for compatibility and to ease integration.
As Lyle quite rightly pointed out we're running a pair of LM317 in  
series to drop +12V to +5V.  This is for heat purposes.
