Hi Folks,

please visit:
http://www.ti.com/ww/en/analog/ads5400/index.shtml?DCMP=hpa_dc_ads5400&HQS=Other+BA+ads5400-b

Here you can get the 1gsa 12bit a/D-Converter for free.
My Idea is to make a spectrum-analyzer-Upgrade with it:

So the plan is to build a replacement for the if and signal-processing
section of any old
spectrum-analyzer using the 1gsa a/d converter. So we can keep a cheap
ebay-scrap-spectrum-analyzer to be a mixer-frontend for the high
ghz-range.
The crt and the other stuff like IF and old switches for bandwidth and
the like are to be scraped

So for example I have an old Ailtech707 that is defective, that I will
tear for parts.
All the nice GHZ-Stuff like mixers, yig-oscillator, attenuator, will
be kept and put in a new case that houses the GHZ-Stuff.

My Idea would be to make an universal buildingblock for the
atlas-system so that we can plug the adc into it and have some
universal controls to tune some yig oscilators using precision
D/A-converters and having some gpios and slow precision a/d d/a to
measure and tune some other voltages.

It would look like a Euro-card for ATLAS having one or two SMA-connectors
for the signals. (2 if we could reliably shnorr 2 a/d converters :-)
And a D-Sub (25?) -Connector with 2 embedded coax for the control of
the HF-Section. And some normal leads for power and control.
Embedded-Coax connectors for precision tuning-voltages to be fed
through rg213 cable.

What do you think?
