If I look at the "details" it mentions nothing about VAT and says that this is the rate to UK. If it's only coming from Germany that is VERY expensive. You may be right about the VAT as I don't know if suppliers within the EU have to charge VAT at source. This is not mentioned in the advert and I've never bought from EU suppliers. If not and VAT is charged on entry, the whole cost goes through the roof.

Whereas Hercules is designed to work with Penelope and understands the switching protocols. However, having gone down the Pennywhistle/PA/Alex route it would be financially crippling for me as a pensioner to change horses now.

This is the common practice, they shaft you on shipping. Today I had to
cancel an order from RS Components, £2.56 worth of IC's + shipping from
Europe, total £8.xx.
Communication Concepts also do a LPF kit 160m - 10m at $91.00 and the
AN762 at $191.05, total $282.05. For the AN762 (140W with 180W also
available) I built my own LPF set and I'm using the CCC one rated at
300W for the EB104.
Admittedly the 100W amp has additional features.
A judgement call as to whether the extra features are worth the extra
$279.00, the extra 40W of the AN762 is probably not making any very
significant contribution to the signal.
Shipping rates from CCC are very reasonable.
In my long years of dealing with CCC from here in the UK, their kits and
service have been excellent in every respect. Mainline Electronics used
to supply their kits at reasonable prices - I don't know if they still
stock them. I had the pleasure of meeting the lady who owns the company
when she was in the UK visiting Mainline Electronics.
73 ... Sid.
