One more thing.  Performance.  If you design your network with
performance in mind and use UDP to move the data you can get almost
the full wire speed bandwidth.  certainly 70% of wire speed is easy to
do.  On a copper or fiber 1000BaseT Ethernet wire the signal bandwidth
is about the same as a 700Mhz analog link.  You could send the entire
Ham bands for VHF to LF down a fiber cable that is 100M long  Mercury
does not need this but some day, there might be and HSDR with multiple
front end receivers and antenna.  each would send it's own UDP stream
down the cable and the cable has "room" for all the bands.

So do desing the system so you can use multiple SDRs at the far and
and multiple computers at the near end.  Mostly you gt this
automatically just be using Ethernet rather then USB.
