I'm working with this setup at the moment, but I've had it for quite awhile and have lots of supporting accessories.

Janus is the critical board to handle the analog-to-digital conversions and back. (Without any HPSDR stuff, you will need a good dual audio board.) Completed Janus boards appear to still be available from TAPR.

For the computer interface to Janus, the best option is the Ozy board, as it contains both the USB interface for the Janus control and audio as well as a parallel port to control the SDR-1000. Unfortunately, completed versions of Ozy are no longer available from TAPR. (Bare boards are still available through them, but you would have to obtain the parts and assemble it yourself. Not for the faint-hearted due to the high-density surface mounted IC components.) The Janus control and audio USB interface can be supplied by Magister - TAPR has these and I'm using one of those at the moment - but that leaves the computer interface for the SDR-1000. If your PC has a parallel port, then you can use that for controlling the SDR-1000 directly. Otherwise, you will need a USB-to-parallel port adapter from Flex Radio. (No other USB-to-parallel adapter will work, trust me. There is special code embedded in this one.) Unfortunately, these are no longer available from Flex Radio. In fact, the parallel control is likely to be your biggest problem whether you use HPSDR or an audio board.

You will also need an Atlas board to plug in the Janus and Ozy/Magister boards plus some kind of PC power supply to power it.

Summary: Unless your PC has a native parallel port on it or you get a Flex Radio USB-to-parallel adapter with the SDR-1000, you may well have trouble using the radio at all.
