[hpsdr] Loading ghpsdr3 into Ubuntu 11.10

by .hex and .rbf  files I mean

ozyfw-sdr1k.hex
Ozy_Janus.rbf

I don't think this is your problem though.
I have just managed to get the ghpsdr3 svn version 2219 with

svn co svn://svn.openhpsdr.org/svn/repos_sdr_hpsdr/trunk/N6LYT/ghpsdr3

to behave for me.

I think the error you have described relates to you trying to run the hpsdr-server from the ghpsdr3-alex
software fork, and then trying to connect to it with the ghpsdr3 (i.e. non ghpsdr3-alex) clients.

I believe the ghpsdr3 software requires you to run the

~/ghpsdr3/trunk/bin/server

followed by

~/ghpsdr3/trunk/bin/ghpsdr

or

~/ghpsdr3/trunk/bin/monitor

I think you have started the ghpsdr3-alex "hpsdr-server", and it will lock up port 12000 on 127.0.0.1 and
not play with the ghpsdr3 "ghpsdr" receiver when you fire up ghpsdr.

make sure you kill or stop "hpsdr-server" before trying to launch ~/ghpsdr3/trunk/bin/server subsequently

I get the impression that John Melton g0orx/N6LYT has modified the header format that clients
expect from the "server" code in the ghpsdr3-alex distribution, and this would account for
the incompatibility you have inadvertently encountered by installing ghpsdr3-alex and then
running ghpsdr3 clients.

Someone who has actually done the coding feel free to chime in here in case I am completely off base.

I am just a keen linux user mucking around with the available files and repositories.

I gather the two code bases are to be merged in due course and things should play together better.

....building software form the svn is not for the faint of heart, I never assume it will necessarily work!

-----------------

Thank you Erich for all the help. I understood that ghpsdr3 was only for
RX. I needed TX also, so I tried to load ghpsdr.

Everything went well buy using the repository and installing ghpsdr3.
BUT, when I came up to your instruction.....

drop copies of the current .hex and .rbf files you're using for the HPSDR
into your home directory by copying, downloading or copy and pasting them
using a file browser.

I got lost. Where do I find these .rbf and .HEX files?
Of course I didn't do that.

The server came up OK and found the Metis.
But when I launched the HPSDR I crashed and got this....

gHPSDR rx 0 (Version 0.6)
getSoundcardId: HPSDR id=8
setSoundcard: 8
setSoundcard -41.000000 -48.000000
client_init encoding=0 audio_buffer_size=400 audio_channels=1
client_init audio_buffer_size=400
spectrum_init
ozy_init: command bound to port 12000 socket 3
ozy_init: server 127.0.0.1
ozy_init: connect failed: Connection refused

This is probably because I didn't follow the .rbf, .hex thing?
Can you or anyone help me with this? I'm so close.
