I'm pretty sure you only have to go down one level from:

svn://svn.openhpsdr.org/svn

or at least my SVN client says so.  So, his URL of:

svn://svn.openhpsdr.org/svn/repos_hpsdr_kiss

should work fine.  He dropped me an e-mail and said that he had some success in getting a good checkout.
