One of the guys in the sdr-widget group said he came across a tip to 
raise the P.S voltage to 5.25, it was actually 5.17V, raising it 5.27V 
caused all previous problems with Ethernet hanging by adding another 
device to the hub with mouse and keyboard have  disappeared.

Keyboard, mouse, usb sound card and Ethernet fully operational using the 
7-port USB hub.

I had originally forgotten to add snd-bcm2835 to /etc/modules which is 
why the SB Live! 24 is card 0.
I have further tests to do, mainly with sound, but now the Rpi is 
looking much healthier.
