Let's remember that the OpenHPSDR group is
not attempting to become a manufacturing
leader; rather to see how much performance
can be squeezed out of existing components.

For example, look at the large size of the
toroid cores for the Alexiares receive
board. Sure, they could have been made
much smaller, but the developers found
that additional performance was gained by
the larger size.

The present works of OpenHPSDR are
substantially different from what it
started out with the Xylo-SDR group. My
Atlas boards changed several times before
manufacture. Cyclops and Thor were not
even imagined. Combining two antennae
for receive was an interesting development;
I'm eager to do the same with transmit.

I remember the schism that separated into
two groups the talent that started the effort.

I am very grateful to TAPR for offering the
boards for those who want to experiment
with OpenHPSDR. I can just imagine the TAPR
volunteers snipping resistors off of reels
to tape to the parts list for Excalibur. I
remember Scotty for years being put in the
middle of obtaining over ten thousand wound
toroids that actually met specification. I
would not blame him for having nothing to do
with toroids in the future.

A big thanks to everyone involved in the
project that renewed my interest in amateur
radio.
