Hi MIke,

You should not feel that your Mercury/Penelope HPSDR is orphaned! Not by a long shot!

In fact, I for one, have personally spent the past months rewriting firmware for Metis/Ozy/Mecury/Penelope in an effort to bring the Atlas-based system up to the new performance levels of Hermes and Angelia, and it’s close to being finished.

The firmware rewrites involved total re-writes for the i2c modules, among changes to other modules too, as all of the firmware version reporting for all the Atlas based boards (including provisions for multiple Mercury boards too), ADC overload status for all Mercury boards (up to 4 Mercury boards), Penny output power value, FWD power value, REV power value, mic/line in selection, mic gain value, and line-in gain values were removed from their previous NWire Atlas bus line dependencies (five Atlas bus lines) and moved onto the i2c bus pair. Doing this supports the under-development-now Cyclops project, which by the way, neither Hermes nor Angelia will be able to implement.

The last piece of the entire firmware set that remains to be finished is to make the Mercury receivers work at the new 384ksps sampling rate in addition to the previous rates. This is proving to be trickier to accomplish than we expected. As soon as that final piece is completed there will be new firmware releases made available for Metis, Ozy, Mercury and Penelope.

So, it seems that you are simply not aware of what’s actually being done to support the Atlas based system, I think. That’s all. There is plenty of work in progress in support of keeping the Atlas based boards current and pushing the performance envelope with them.

Thank you Joe and Abhi. Feeling that my Mercury/Penelope HPSDR is orphaned, I'm thinking about spending the big money to get an Anan-100D.
