Hi Ken,

not anymore, just now (and really since '90) every ethernet LAN is a switched one, and the vast 
majority of switches (if not all) work at wire speed, so they are able to forward frames back and 
forth to the full link speed.
Finally, the protocol on each link between computers and switch is full duplex (not CSMA/CD), each 
physical link acts as a couple of (very) high speed serial line, one for each direction.
So, no fear of collision: till you have enough ports on your switch, you can connect computers at will.
