Hi Mike,

While ChipQuik is a good idea, I have removed the transformer with the
following technique without damage many times:

1. Use fresh, good quality solder-wick to remove as much solder from all
of the pins as possible. The part can take a fair amount of heat on its
pins, as long as you don't move them around at the same time.

2. Using a fine dental tool, gently pry each pin up one at a time while
applying a small amount of heat to the pin. Put the tool under the part
and pry very gently from the inner end of the pin (next to the part).
Did I mention to pry *gently*? :-) This is where too much heat or too
much force will destroy your transformer. If you have removed most of
the solder, the pin will "pop" free with almost no additional heat. What
you want to do is heat the top of the pin only, so that it separates
from the pad without needing to melt the solder on the pad at all.
Again, this requires very little heat.

3. Work along one side of the transformer. Once three pins (one side)
are free, the transformer will tilt off the board a bit, allowing easier
access to the remaining pins on the other side.

I usually set my iron hot, and limit the contact time to prevent
damaging components. This means you had better not keep the iron on any
pin for more than a few seconds.

Also be careful not to hit the body of the transformer with the tip of
the iron; it melts quite easily from direct contact.
