Hi Brian,

The short answer is yes, but if you happen to have an ANAN-series radio that has incorrect number of windings on the 10/12m filter toroids you will experience low output power on 10m.

The firmware uses correct switch-point frequencies for the Alex filter set, which is also the correct switch-point frequencies for the ANAN-series radios that have the correct windings on their filters. It is my understanding that later versions of the ANAN series radios use correct windings on their 10/12m filters so their switch points should be identical to those in Alex. Earlier versions of the ANAN series radios do not.

The firmware “patch” used initially by Abhi to correct the 10m low power output for some ANAN series radios is not the ideal method for correcting the issue of low power output on 10m on those earlier ANAN radios, as the issue is actually a hardware issue, not a firmware or software issue. If Abhi wishes to create a version of firmware that uses different switch points from Alex that’s his prerogative but you should be aware that the issue is not actually a firmware issue, it’s a hardware issue.

The fact is that there should be only a single firmware version to use with each of the Hermes, Angelia, and Orion boards, respectively, regardless of whether the board are used in an ANAN-series configuration with the Apache Labs filters or in a stand alone configuration using Alex filters. The "correct fix” for ANAN radios that have the low power output issue on 10m is to rewind the filter toroids for the 10/12 m filters on those radios, not to patch the firmware or software to use switch points that are different from the Alex filter design.
