This is exciting news.

For the FPGA consider the Altera MAX10.

I am not sure what the SPI issue is/was on the present product line 
talking to the off-board SPI devices, but consider revising the SPi 
driver.  Writing the same pattern twice appears to be working, but is 
definitely a band-aid!
