Some of us are patiently waiting for the hardware guys to do

can offer nothing to the hardware development phase of this
project.

And some of us are on yet another level of interest, - also
patiently waiting. What we want to do is take the building
blocks of all this great HW, run some great SW with it that
takes of advantage of it and build it all in to a highly
sophisticated SDR based "station". As such we are not
particularly interested in detail board level design, or even
building boards. Same for the software, - not really
interested in writing code either. We want "black boxes" and
downloadable software. In any case we do follow it all with
great interest and do truly recognize the implications and
therefore the potential of it all. As such we *really* do
want to "use" it, not just "play" with it for the sake of
playing with it. In other words put all this great technology
into some serious day in and day out use.

Some of use have done things similar to this before with 100%
computer controlled radios from the existing manufacturers.
While it has worked well within the existing HW's design
constraints and therefore software constraints - we do want
more. We want to advance our station's design by several
orders of magnitude in terms of technology. It is abundantly
clear to me that the Yaecomwoods just don't "get it", and
from where I'm sitting doesn't look like they will any time
soon, if ever. So they are simply not an option for us to go
forward. So that is why we lurk here and toss an occasional
posting like this one into the discussion fray every now and
then.

So that brings me to the question of how will all this great
work being done by HPSDR.org be brought into the more
mainstream, - dare I say it "commercial" (gulp) level?? I've
been pondering this on and off for some time now. One
scenario is that it be handled like the TAPR TNC2 was done
some 20 odd years ago. All in all that seemed to work quite
well for "mainstreaming" the whole packet radio thing. In the
mid to late 80's there were several models of TNC's made by
different manufacturers that were all very much TNC2 based.
Could this same, (or a similar) method be applied to the
HPSDR hardware that is under development here and now?

What do others think?
