[hpsdr] SMT Soldering and Circuit Board Heat Question

Cash,

Have you looked into laboratory hot plates at all? Googling around, I
see that Corning makes a wide line of them. The temperature controlled
ones look ideal but too expensive, at least new. There seem to be quite
a few of the unregulated kinds going surplus on eBay and various lab
surplus sites. They range from 5"x5" and up. Most are described as being
particularly even heat. Do you think any of these might be worth a look?
Thanks.

P.S. - just ordered the solder paste and beverage warmer from you; I
already have a heat gun.
