[hpsdr] board orders

Larry and everyone who have e-mailed me in the background expressing
concerns about boards and assembly, parts, group buys etc!!!!

This Reflector with it's rapid growth, exciting topics, everyone
contributing in an open manner within their area of expertise, has been
inspirational to say the least. I understand your message and concerns. The
'project' called HPSDR has exploded into more fun than I ever have had. The
hallmark is open cooperation and volunteerism in all areas. I will continue
that ~7 month tradition.

I realize that the HPSDR "K(C)ool!-aid stand" is not the best long term
solution and can see where this phenomena is going. I am a 'user advocate'
first, and am well aware that this can, and should become an "HPSDR for the
Masses" a term coined recently in a different venue. I am also committed to
the 'open source' concept which Phil_C and others have spawned. We are ALL
the beneficiaries in that effort, as well as contributors.

For four months I have been 'asking questions' of folks in the background
who have had some knowledge about getting a project like this from A to B. I
will be continuing that effort. I am making some progress. At this point, I
don't see any point in distracting the Reflector with any details. Just as
Lyle or Phil don't report every part they lay on a board. It might take
another paradigm shift! I am on point to move the 'stand' into a
'storefront' with products we can buy.

I won't hide anything just reserve the time for announcement.

I have never known Lyle to 'cut anyone out' he just underestimated demand,
and I jumped the gun. It's a tricky thing when your $ are on the line! If he
does not open the orders for the Pinocchio board (which will ALWAYS be a
user assembled unit)I'll upfront the $ to get it made. The Atlas in the
first 400 boards is the same story: No guarantees, and it is user populated,
and a "rite of passage" into the HPSDR Group. Phil did a great job and
accepted and incorporated ideas from all users to produce a truly universal
saddle to "ride this bronc!" Getcher soldering iron folks this is gonna be a
really great ride into the future!

Thanks
Eric - AA4SW

From a non-developer, but anxious user:

1. One might assume that some or most of the guys ordering ATLAS boards
will want some or most of the plug in boards, so would expect significant
orders of the non-beta boards.

2. With the specialized parts, such at the DSP chips, it is going to be
tough for everyone to get from a supplier in ones or twos and I suspect that

eventually someone is going to have all the boards and parts for a project
and never be able to get one of the special ones and no substitute. I found

this problem out when I planned a project around a special op amp, verified
that it was available, laid the board out and submitted the layout to
ExpressPC, got called to dinner, came back and the total stock was sold out
a mere four hours later.

This is a great project, not sure how these issues can be resolved. Not
picking on the Pinoccio board order, but after what we will all end up
spending on this project, the cost of a couple of those boards is very
minimal if ordered in bulk.
