[hpsdr] Gibraltar?????

Horst,

Progress on Gibraltar has been slow but recent developments have been made
off-line that will allow the design to move forward. I am in the process of
implementing these improvements in my commercial product. When tested and
proven I plan to roll these changes out, first as a schematic for peer
review.

One major obstacle is that I have been using Circad for years to do
schematic capture and PCB layout. I am trying to learn the Mentor graphics
suite of software (PADS, etc.) to implement this project. This software is
available to the HPSDR team for non-commercial educational use courtesy of
AMSAT using an on-line license server. Let me know if you are interested.
Cadence (OrCAD) and Ansoft product suites are also available. If there are
any experts out there that would like to work with me on this uphill
learning process let me know.

The design is being optimized around the expensive ($250 ea, min order 10,
12 week lead time) Valpey Fisher OCXO. It uses a direct heated crystal, is
very small for an OCXO and consumes less power than most OCXOs. I understand
from the e-mails here that many people want to use Gibraltar to steer their
own external oscillators for a variety of reasons. That was not in my plan
but I expect when the schematic is published it will become evident that
with some simple changes that will be possible.

***** High Performance Software Defined Radio Discussion List *****

hi all,
is there any progress in the Gibraltar project????? Everything seams to slow
down and has
lost the initial drive and enthusiasm. How comes? Not complaining, just
wondering.

I got my 10 MHz OCXO yesterday and a few days back my i-Lotus M12M timing
GPS receiver. As
you remember I developed the Propeller-to-Atlas board and I am going to
interface both the
OCXO and the M12M to the propeller chip in order to do all the signal
conditioning as well
as developing a GPS raw data interface where you can see the data on the
connected VGA
screen as well as the GPS jitter integration results.
But maybe it will take till Xmas until I am finished. Any hints, comments,
how-tos etc.
are very welcome.
