I have found the best way to remove SMD packages  is with the "cheese wire " 
method. Provided there is some clearance between the package and the pins 
thread some 30SWG or similar gauge thermalise or resistance wire that won´t 
tin easily along the gap and tie off one end to  any convinient point. next 
heat the pins and draw the wire out under the leads. The track is pushed 
down against the FR4 and the pins lifted clear and therefore mimises the 
chance of any damage.
