[hpsdr] OZY repair success with questions

All:

I would like to reinforce Lyle's recommendation of using "ChipQuik" as
a method to unsolder surface mount parts for people without commercial
SMT desoldering equipment.

For those of you in the south and west part of the US, is is stocked and
sold at Fry's Electronics stores in the area with the solder.

It is a low temperature Indium based solder, that when mixed with regular
solder, lowers the melting point to just above room temperature, perhaps
150 degrees F or 70 degrees C.

So get as much of the old regular solder off with solder braid, then add
the enclosed flux, and melt the "QuikChip" solder onto each lead and
work it into the joints. Once the indium solder is in each joint,
soldering
almost anywhere on the part will get the entire part warm enough that it
will just lift off the board.

If you are re-using the part or the board, use solder braid to pick up
as much
of the indium solder as you can, to get a normal joint when you
re-solder the
next part down.

Remember that the populated circuit board is worth more than anything else,
and you want to protect it above all. Reworks that damage or lift the pads
on the circuit board put the entire board at risk.
