Hi Jeff

thats exactly what I did: I modified my HW-104 in order to use Driver
and PA with Penelope. I used antenna switch 5 to switch from internal
to external exciter and used J12 (receiver antenna) to connect
Penelope. So the output of Penelope is connected via a manual
attenuator through J12 and switch 5 to the Driver Circuit Board J 2/3
(RF in). As I do not use the ALC control I had to carefully adjust the
output power of Penelope. The PTT switch of the HW-104 has been wired
at the microphone connector. To switch the antennas I used the open
drain FET on J6 pin 13 to control a T/R relay as already has been
proposed. As my Mercury has not yet arrived I used the Flex-5000 as
receiver. I made some qso's and the signal was reported to be nice.
As this configuration worked I tried another one: I connected the
Penelope signal to J1 of the BPF board of the SDR-1000. This is quite
simple as you only have to disconnect the little rf cable between RFE
and BPF board and install a BNC jack to the "Rx 144 MHz" hole of the
back plane. This worked also well and I will probably use this
configuration with when I get Mercury.
