[hpsdr] Re Penny power shortfall

Hi All

I have built one of these driver amps from Virgil, to drive my Sommerkamp SLA300 linier but I cannot get it to produce good audio for some reason. If I bypass it my audio is good, but when in circuit my audio is said to be very restricted. I have checked every thing, but cannot find anything wrong. Any adjustments to biasing make no difference, I have checked toriods
for correct winding etc, fitted ferrites to everything but makes no difference.

No adjustment of output from Penny makes any difference to problem.

If I scope in and out they look perfect.

I get about 40 watts out of SLA300 amp when I bypass driver amp and over 300 watts in circuit.

I will be very interested if you can get yours working OK.

As anybody had this driver working OK.

Regards

Brian Crighton.

Another option (in kit form) is the SDR "preamp" from Virgil Stamps, K5OOR. I just received that particular kit yesterday and though I haven't assembled it, the prospects look good.

Best,
Dan
