[hpsdr] Mercury JTAG programming error - help!

I know that it has been discussed before, but... help!

I'm setting up my HPSDR - Ozy and Mercury to begin with.
All boards were tested with a friend months ago, and all was ok.
Now I'm following the instructions in the quick startup guide to 
update firmware, and I'm stuck with
Error: Can't access JTAG chain
Error: Operation failed

Ozy in slot J5, Mercury in J6, JP7 jumper duly placed. Power supply 
seems fine. All software just loaded, all (presumably) up to the last versions.

Tried two times, rebooted, etc. - now what? :-\
