Just did some quick checking, here in Austin.

With Mercury/Excalibur confirmed as within 1 Hz
of WWV at 10 MHz, (scales to 0.1 Hz accuracy at 1 MHz.)
I measured the frequency of the strongest five AM broadcast
stations here in Austin.

Relative to assigned frequency, I got.
-3 Hz
+2.5 Hz
+1.5 Hz
- 0.25 Hz
-0.18 Hz

Quick check on a few shortwave broadcast stations was
worse errors.

So, assuming similar distribution, AM broadcast stations are
really not suitable for setting frequency on Excalibur, since those
errors would be roughly times ten at 10 MHz.  Best to stick with
WWV or some other standards station.
