The docs on my router say it's a duplex switch 10/100. It's a Netgear WGT624
(4-port). But I'll look closer today.

Is your  'router' an Ethernet switch - or a hub.  If a hub it will 
not work with Metis - Metis requires a switch.

First step in debugging these things is to get a Wireshark 
(www.wireshark.org) capture so we can see if Metis is asking for an 
address and if the router is offering him one.
