Gentlemen:

If you have a truly capable receiver don't you think it might be "proper" to think of such a thing as just one more item in the "tool kit?"
I have to move off topic but I use a Elecraft transverter with my Flex Radio V/U upgrade to settle "disputes" because with it I can look at my own signal, for example, and compare with what a repeater is producing.   With my set up this does, at times, require as much as 60 dB of attenuation.
