[hpsdr] step attenuator on the front end

Good morning,
 
This is an AGC time constant problem which can be solved. If the time  
constants are poorly selected, the system is in trouble. It must be adjusted by  
magnitude and phase like a type 2 second order system.

Hi All,
I've played with step attenuators on the front of  receivers. It sounds 
like a cool idea to have it toggle with AGC action but I  found the changing 
control signals to the attenautor produced transients into  the RX path and 
made it useless. Selectable attenuation over the whole range  is very useful
