[hpsdr] Hermes start-up problem

Hi Don,

Haven't seen a reply yet so thought I would mention a couple of things(I
apologize if this is old new to you):

I believe you mentioned previously that u are doing a direct connect from
you host to the new Hermes,
If so then 2 things must be true:
    1) they are on the same subnet, that is first 2 octets of the IP address
are equal no matter the class of the IP subnet
    2) your host direct connect ether port is configured to do fixed 100 MB
full duplex com only.
At the moment Metis/Hermes do not do any speed negotiation (well
not officially).
I say officially because I observed that I was taking to Hermes a
1GB with the HPSDRBootloader but when I remove J12 I couldn't connect
because I had removed the 100MB speed restriction on my hosts
'hpsdr' ether port.
When going through a switch it is the switch that reconfigures its
ports to handle speed changes.

I believe the "TX_Reset" is when Hermes/Metis start transmitting broadcast
message in its IP address looking for the host to reply.
After several tries with a wait periods of a few seconds or so between
tries it stops the transmission and waits for a broadcast from the host
on the same subnet.
You can observe this by watching the led on the Hermes Ethernet connector.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [hpsdr] Hermes start-up problem

***** High Performance Software Defined Radio Discussion List *****

Still having trouble getting my second Hermes to run.

All the debug LEDs D10-D19)light on power-up and stay lit except D12 and D16
slow flash. On my working Hermes, all these LEDs light momentarily on
power-up, then go off except one flashing, followed shortly by two others
flashing.

On the non-working Hermes board, I can load code using the USB blaster or by
using the HPSDRBootloader. Using HPSDRBootloader, I can read the MAC and IP
addresses with a jumper on J12. I can also set the IP address. However, when
I remove the jumper on J12 and power cycle the Hermes board, I can no longer
connect to the board to do anything.

All power LEDs are on and the heartbeat LED flashes.

It appears that the board is hung up in the power-up reset and
initialization. Any suggestions on how to track this down?

The Metis document on the Ethernet interface mentions a "Tx_Reset" that
controls the initial reset on power-up. I can't find this term anywhere in
the Hermes schematics. What is the equivalent Hermes term?

Thanks,
Don
