Hi Phil,
Other useful apps I would suggest in addition to pihpsdr
quisk (works with Hermes-Lite and may be Hermes)
KissKonsole (runs under mono)
openHPSDRJ
AD0ES's fldigi (ad0es.net)

All the above support RX and TX.
