How about taking off the fpga entirely, and mount a place for two $35 
RPI3 (Tinker) boards to handle

all the tasks?  With Tinker, we get gigabit phy, LCD, USB, I/O and all 
the goodies.  You can ask Phil, but

probably be plenty of processing power to do everything.  Some sort of 
high speed interface between the

two cpu boards...
