Hi, Bob,
The computer doesn't have a dhcp server running. I'm unsure how to set
a static IP with a subnet of 255.0.0.0. It doesn't seem to let me set
an ip address of anything with 255 as the first octet. I tried to set
the ip to something it liked with a netmask of 255.255.255.255 and the
ping said the network was unrechable.
sudo ifconfig enx8cae4cf4dae2 inet 255.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.255
SIOCSIFADDR: Invalid argument
jim-Dell-Laptop ~ # sudo ifconfig enx8cae4cf4dae2 inet 192.168.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.255
jim-Dell-Laptop ~ # ping 255.255.255.255
connect: Network is unreachable
enx8cae4cf4dae2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 8c:ae:4c:f4:da:e2
inet addr:192.168.0.1 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.255
