VAC is very reliable if you do your part, for both transmit and receive
audio. Lower latency, too.

is getting just a little dated, but is still 90% valid.

Any USB headset will work, but best performance is obtained from an audio
interface that provides ASIO driver support. The Behringer UMC202HD is the
value leader for such interfaces.
