[hpsdr] FPGA

Thanks for the reply, Helmut. The two are both 240 pin packages.

To clarify further, the HERMES I bought from Apache a number of years ago has the "40" version. The latest purchased last year and finally delivered this year has the "25" version. I really wondered if I could replace the broken "40" in the early board with the "25". The boards appear to be the same except for the FPGA.

I suppose I could install a "25" and see if it works. Just trying to solve the mystery before taking that step and potentially wasting $50.

The early HERMES I have contains a EP3C40Q240C8N FPGA and the latest one from Apache Labs contains a EP3C25Q240C8N FPGA. Does anyone know if the EP3C25Q240C8N will work in the older HERMES? It is considerably less expensive and the one in my older board bit the dust.

EP3C40 ... is the larger FPGA containing 39600 LE (logic elements). The
small EP3C25 ... only contains 24624 LE.

addition: Maybe? the EP3C25 is used on the Hermes 14 Bit board requiring
other firmware. Moreover packages are not compatible: 256 pins vs 484
pins. We used this small FPGA on our 'good old Mercury'
